History
The original founder of the firm was Jay Thomas McCamic
who was born July 1, 1894, in Wellsburg, Brooke County, West
Virginia. Jay was the youngest of seven sons and one daughter
born of Frances and Nathan McCamic.
Jay attended the public schools of Brooke County and upon
graduation from high school was released by his father from
further family duties so that he might seek a higher education.
Jay worked in steel mills until he had saved enough money
to enter Washington and Jefferson College. He earned the highest
marks ever achieved before at the college and graduated Summa
Cum Laude.
World War I interrupted his education and he served in France
as an infantry officer. While there he took an examination
given by the Army and qualified for special duty as a student
at the London School of Economics. While in London he met
Joan Whitehead, the future Mrs. McCamic.
Upon discharge he returned to his educational pursuits at
the Yale Law School, earning an editorship on the Yale Law
Review. Upon graduating he entered the practice of law with
his older brother Charles in Wheeling.
In 1926, seven years after meeting Joan Whitehead, he returned
to England and he and Joan were married. Two sons, Jeremy
C. McCamic and Jolyon W. McCamic, were born of this union
and both became lawyers who practiced together with their
father in the firm of McCamic & McCamic in Wheeling
until his death in 1971. The firm of McCamic & McCamic
continued and Jeffrey W. McCamic, son of Jolyon W. McCamic
joined in 1983 and Jay T. McCamic, son of Jeremy C. McCamic
joined the next year.
On January 1, 2003 the firm was reorganized and McCamic,
Sacco & Pizzuti, PLLC was formed with members Jay
T. McCamic, Jeffrey W. McCamic, Gary A. Sacco, and John J.
Pizzuti. Jeremy C. McCamic and Jolyon W. McCamic continue
to serve as of counsel members.
